Every book you buy directly from us sidesteps billionaire-backed retailers and helps keep marginalized stories alive in our community.

We’re a queer/trans-owned indie press, and while our books are technically everywhere (paperback, ebook, and audiobook at local shops, Bookshop.org, iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, and Amazon) we’d much rather you support indie, queer, trans, Indigenous, immigrant, and BIPOC-owned bookstores, or buy direct from us at wayfarerbookstore.com.

The Print Edition

NOW AVAILABLE > We are proud to announce the release of Issue 43 of Wayfarer Magazine

The Uncharted Project –  At the heart of this issue is the launch of The Uncharted Project, a bold new interview series created by Wayfarer’s founder and Editor-in-Chief, Connor Wolfe. Each conversation begins with one simple question, What does it really mean to forge your own path?  In this inaugural series, Wolfe sits down with a poignant company of voices:  Pádraig Ó Tuama, Chris La Tray, James Crews, and Ana Maria Spagna.

A Tribute to Andrea Gibson  –  In this issue, we revisit a powerful interview from our archives with Andrea Gibson in honor of their passing. Their words and presence have shaped and inspired so many, and it is with deep gratitude that we share their voice again within these pages.

Protest Poetry –  Issue 43 looks back on the most vital Protest Poetry of 2025, with work engaging themes of transgender rights, Palestine, Black Lives Matter, and the ongoing fight against fascism. These pieces remind us that art and activism walk hand in hand.

the story

Wayfarer Books is a fiercely independent, trans-owned press publishing award-winning literature from the wild and societal margins. Founded in a fair-trade café in Boston during the summer of 2009 by Connor Wolfe and Isla Kirkey, the house officially launched in 2011 under the name Homebound Publications and expanded in 2012 to include our literary magazine Wayfarer Magazine. In 2024, the house evolved along with its Founders and Homebound Publications became Wayfarer Books.

Through a collapsing industry, a global pandemic, paper shortages, shipping disruptions, and the looming dominance of billionaire-backed retailers, Wayfarer has not only survived, it has endured. The press remains committed to amplifying voices often silenced by the mainstream and continues to publish poetry, essays, and nonfiction that speak truth from the wild margins of both landscape and culture.

we are on native land.

Wayfarer Books is based in the San Juan Mountains near Mesa Verde, on the lands of the Ancestral Pueblo, the Southern Ute, the Weenuchiu (the Mountain Ute), the Diné (Navajo), and the San Juan Southern Paiute Nations. We honor the generations of Indigenous communities who have lived in, stewarded, and maintained these lands for thousands of years. We recognize that this land was taken through colonization and displacement, and we acknowledge the ongoing presence and contributions of Indigenous peoples, past, and present. As a company rooted in stories and knowledge, we commit to listening, learning, and supporting Indigenous voices, sovereignty, and wealth redistribution.

Howdy, Wayfarer
